Cedar Hill Implements Tales From The Crypt Keepers

cedar-hill-cemeteryWhat do Katharine Hepburn, a cemetery, and an audio guide have in common? Visit Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, CT and find out for yourself!

The cemetery hosts a number of notable celebrity grave-sites such as Hepburn and J.P. Morgan. The number of people dropping in to tour the cemetery can be overwhelming at times for the staff.

“We have a lean staff here at Cedar Hill, and sometimes we just don’t have the time we would like to give tours to all visitors,” stated Beverly Lucas, Foundation Director.

“Implementing the Guide by Cell self-guided cell phone audio tour has helped solve that problem. Visitors can use their own phones to walk around the cemetery and hear about Hepburn, Morgan, and learn about the beautiful park-like setting here at Cedar Hill.”

What Would George Washington Think About Text Messaging?

You’ve scheduled a big event and are eager to let attendees know about all the happenings and details of the day. Unfortunately, getting this information to every attendee is very challenging.

David Rosehill, Visual Information Specialist of Valley Forge National Park, implemented our new Crowd Notification SMS Service in preparation for the significant crowds expected on July 4.

“We knew the park would be extremely busy on the 4th of July. Notifying visitors of all the activities taking place during the day was challenging since not everyone steps into the visitor center and picks up a flyer. But we implemented the new Guide by Cell system, and it was a big success.”

“Visitors were asked to text into the SMS system to sign up for text message alerts notifying them of the many exciting events occurring throughout the day. Our park is vast – over 3,500 acres – and having the ability to pre-schedule and auto send text messages to visitors was extremely helpful. Our visitors enjoyed the text alerts very much.”

“Give by Cell is professional and a great service. The annual Easter Seals Telethon was our first time using text messaging for donations, and it was very successful. The campaign exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to working with Give by Cell again in the future.”

“We want to reach a lot of non-members and visitors who come for the first time as they pass through Chicago namely tourists who aren’t part of our existing donor base. We also hope to reach longtime visitors who had a good day at the museum and feel like supporting us.”

Events and Fun

Denver Zoo in Colorado uses Guide by Cell’s text message alert system to communicate directly with guests on site expanding the zoo’s promotional arm.

“We are so pleased with the results of this cost-effective tool. Being able to steer our guests to opportunities around the zoo and special promotions has enhanced their visit while supporting our revenue goals,” says VP for Guest Services Amber Christopher.

Visitors can opt-in by texting “DZOO” to 56512 to receive text alerts throughout the day. The zoo recently began promoting the text for information at its Zoo Lights event where the schedule changes nightly.

“The flexibility of this system has helped us communicate important information that is constantly changing. It’s something that we can’t do with traditional signage,” says Director of Communications Tiffany Barnhart.

The zoo’s use of the system during Zoo Lights has reached hundreds of visitors.
